Due to higher summer demand, we ask that patrons limit their registration to one family, not necessarily their own. Telephone and early registration will not be accepted. Children must meet age requirements by the first day of the program and grades noted are grades entering in September 2019. Please remember that 3 ½ years old means the child must be at least 3 years and 6 months old. You must enter the requested information such as your child’s birth date, age or grade level in the “Note to Instructor” field. Please adhere to all posted age or grade level requirements or your registration will be invalidated. STUDENTS ENTERING 6th GRADE: Don’t forget to check with the Young Adult Department for their Summer Program Booklet. They have additional programs that you may enjoy! Registration for July Young Adult programs begins June 1. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- OUTDOOR PICNIC - EIJ529 Join us for a picnic in the Discovery Backyard. There will be snacks, games and fun for all. In the event of inclement weather, this program will take place in the Children’s Meeting Room. CHESS LESSONS – EIJ414 If you’ve wanted to learn how to play chess, here’s your chance. Teen volunteers will guide students as they play with each other to learn the basics of the game. EVERY DAY IS GRANDPARENTS' DAY! - EIJ439 Preschoolers and grandparents share stories, songs, games and make a simple craft. TIME FOR TWOS - EIJ406 Bring your two-year-old to the library for age appropriate stories, rhymes and songs. No siblings please. MORE THAN MOTHER GOOSE – EIJ403 More than Mother Goose for children includes nursery rhymes, songs, finger plays, and stories. Parents participate with their child. Older siblings welcome. LIGHT UP HANDS ON - EIJ574 Drop-in to create these Star Wars-inspired galaxy STEM crafts with our teen volunteers. No registration necessary FINGERPRINTING Participants will learn techniques used by law enforcement in order to dust, lift and analyze latent fingerprints on various services.
READ TO THE DOGS – EIJ578 Students practice their reading skills and gain confidence by reading aloud to a trained Therapy Dog. Dogs and their handlers are registered with Therapy Dogs International. Student readers can sign up for a 20-minute session when they come to the Children’s Desk to register.
Learn beginning American Sign Language with Professional Instructor, Jennie. Siblings may register to attend the same session.
SHARK TALK - EIJ599 Long Island's coastal waters have an abundance of sharks, all of which we know very little about. In 2015, a small group of researchers were the first to deploy a satellite tag on a juvenile great white shark off Long Island’s south shore. Over the subsequent two summers, a partnership with OCEARCH enabled them to tag an additional 20 white sharks off Montauk. In this presentation, learn about the continued work of the Shark Research and Education Program of the South Fork Natural History Museum. This program is generously provided for by the Bohlsen Family Foundation. STAR LAB Explore this portable planetarium in our library, with the power to reveal the wonder of the universe! COME FLY AWAY WITH ME FAMILY STORY TIME – EIJ455 We’ll share books, sing, and let our imaginations soar high in the air. Pajamas, older siblings, and stuffed animals welcome! EDIBLE SHARK WEEK CREATIONS - EIJ541 Celebrate all things shark by making a shark cupcake and life preserver donut with Chef Rob Scott! After you create these edible goodies, play shark games with Chef Rob. BUBBLEMANIA! - EIJ553 There will be bubbles, bubbles everywhere in this splishy, splashy program. We'll enjoy bubble stories and many other bubble activities. DECORATIVE SEA SHELLS - EIJ488 Join Miss Gina to decorate seashells with puffy paint to make your own beach scene! PLANETS AND MOONS - EIJ571 Explore the depth of our solar system and create a lunar eclipse in this planetary tour. Learn how the planets stack up. Build and take home the “Mad Science Gravity Assisted Launcher.” This program is generously provided for by the Bohlsen Family Foundation. BABY TIME - EIJ404 This parent and child program includes fun age appropriate activities designed to stimulate and encourage your child's physical and mental growth. TODDLER TIME - EIJ405 This parent and child program includes fun age appropriate activities designed to stimulate and encourage your child's physical and mental growth. MAKERSPACE NIGHT: BOAT BUILDING IS BACK! – EIJ452 It'll be wet and a wee bit wild as families make and race their boats. ZOOM ZOOM ZOOM STORY WALK – EIJ465 We’ll zoom to the moon in this thrilling program. So join us for a special story time outside in our Discovery Backyard. Afterwards all are welcome to stretch your legs and get your wiggles out while exploring our outside nature classroom. Just a reminder this program will start in the Children's Program Room and end in the Discovery Backyard, weather permitting! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO CLIFFORD THE BIG RED DOG - EIJ546 Let’s celebrate the big dog with games, crafts and enjoy a birthday snack. This program may not be suitable for those with food allergies. ROCKET SHIP: FULL STEAM AHEAD - EIJ544 A Time for Kids presents an interactive program designed to stimulate and engage thinking through exploration and play. Includes storytelling and a special STEAM inspired craft. HARRY POTTER MOVIE EXPERIENCE - EIJ503 Watch the flick, follow the script and relive the magic. The Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows experience will include wizards, wands, Snitches, and more. Everyone will receive a gift bag packed with props to interact with the movie. Children will have the opportunity to see, touch and learn about the lives of these amazing animals!
